We would like to introduce African Sun Mining (Pty) Ltd to Exxaro Resources Limited. In addition to our company profile (attached hereto), we would like to highlight our background and record of service:

  • African Sun Mining renders the following services:
    • Full package Opencast Mining Services, including but not limited to:
      • Drilling and Blasting;
      • Load and Haul;
      • Crushing and Screening;
      • Establishment of Decline Shafts;
      • Mine Rehabilitation;
  • Since inception, African Sun Mining has been focused and dedicated to executing full Opencast Mining projects in South Africa.
  • Below are the projects which we executed:
    • Ilitha Mining (Pty) Ltd:
      • In 2011, Ilitha Mining (a subsidiary of Afarak Group SA) awarded African Sun Mining full package opencast mining contract for a period of five (5) years, in Boshoek – Rustenburg.
      • African Sun Mining was contracted to mine MG1, MG2, MG3, MG4 & MG4a and LG6 & LG6a Ore Seams (ranging between 20kt – 40kt per month ROM).
      • The mining contract was extended to end on 29 February 2020.
    • Chromex Mining (Pty) Ltd:
      • In 2012, Chromex Mining (a subsidiary of Afarak Group SA) awarded African Sun Mining full package opencast mining contract for a period of five (5) years, in Mecklenburg – Limpopo.
      • African Sun Mining was contracted to mine LG6 & LG6a Ore Seams at 30kt per month of ROM.
      • In 2014, the project was put on hold and later cancelled due to the unrests caused by the fall-out between the Chromex Mining and the local communities.
    • Stibium Mine (Pty) Ltd
      • In 2016, Stibium Mine awarded African Sun Mining a full package opencast mining contract for a box-cut project, in Gravelote – Phalaborwa.
      • African Sun Mining was contracted to mine Gold Ore.
      • Project was completed within 8 (eight) months.
    • Destiny Spring Investments 11 (Pty) Ltd
      • In 2015, Destiny Spring Investment 11 (a subsidiary of Afarak Group SA) awarded African Sun Mining a full package opencast mining contract for a Bulk Sample Project in 2015, at Vlakpoort Mine – Northam (Limpopo).
      •  African Sun Mining was contracted to mine LG1, LG3, LG5, LG6 & LG6a Ore Seams (ranging between 10kt – 20kt per month of ROM).
      • Bulk Sample project was completed within 7 (seven) months.
      • In 2018, Destiny Spring Investment 11 was granted a full mining license and it awarded a five (5) year contract to African Sun Mining to continue mining the above-mentioned Chrome Ore Seams.
      • However, the contract was stopped on 29 February 2020, due to turbulent financial markets which dropped chrome prices sharply.
    • Samancor Chrome – WCM: Elandsdrift Mine
      • In December 2019, Samancor Chrome Ltd awarded African Sun Mining a 24 (twenty-four) months contract (full package opencast mining contract) to mine Elandsdrift Mine.
      • African Sun Mining is contracted to mine MG0 – MG4 chrome ore seams.
      • The production target varied monthly between 120kt  – 160kt per month of ROM.
      • African Sun Mining has consistently exceeded the targets with large volumes of ROM.
      • The contract came to an end on 31 January 2022.
    • Samancor Chrome – WCM: Buffelsfontein East Mine
      • In June 2020, Samancor Chrome Ltd awarded African Sun Mining a 18 months contract (full package opencast mining contract) to mine Buffelsfontein Mine.
      • African Sun Mining is contracted to mine MG0 – MG4 chrome ore seams at a total of 40kt per month of ROM.
      • African Sun Mining has consistently exceeded the targets with large volumes of ROM.
      • The contract came to an end on 31 January 2022.
  • We have a track record of working with communities and can recruit employees from neighbouring communities where our operations are located. We will however bring our core labour with at the commencement of the project and later dilute with local employees as we deem necessary.
  • We are also continuously assisting our current client to meet their SLP requirements where possible and we also play a pivotal role in the local communities that we operate in through our robust CSI programs.
  • African Sun Mining always strive to deploy new equipment whenever starting new projects, to ensure that we limit the downtime caused by breakdowns.
